Hasbled is a medical acronym that stands for six key factors that can increase the risk of bleeding in patients: hypertension, abnormal renal and liver function, stroke history, bleeding history, labile international normalized ratio (INR), and elderly age. However, there are several synonyms that can be used interchangeably with hasbled, including HEMORR2HAGES and ATRIA. HEMORR2HAGES stands for hypertension, abnormal renal and liver function, stroke, bleeding history or predisposition, anemia, previous major bleeding, age greater than 65, and drugs and alcohol. ATRIA stands for anticoagulation and risk factors in atrial fibrillation, which includes similar risk factors to hasbled but includes both atrial fibrillation and the use of blood thinners.
