North Dakota, also known as the Peace Garden State or the Roughrider State, is a sparsely populated state in the northern part of the United States. It is bordered by Montana, South Dakota, Minnesota, and the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The state capital is Bismarck, and the largest city is Fargo. Other synonyms for North Dakota include the Sioux State, the Flickertail State, and the Land of Sky-Blue Waters. Its nickname, the Peace Garden State, comes from the International Peace Garden, a symbol of peace between the United States and Canada, located on the border between North Dakota and Manitoba.
