Oral vaccination, the process of delivering vaccines orally, has revolutionized immunization practices in recent times, but there exists a plethora of synonyms for the term. Some common synonyms include mouth vaccination, ingestion vaccination, and ingestion immunization. Alternatively, the term "oral immunization" is also used to describe the same processes. Some experts in the field also use more technical terms like mucosal vaccination, as the oral cavity and respiratory, digestive and reproductive tracts, collectively, compose the mucosal immune system. The synonyms may vary, but the purpose remains the same- to protect against infectious diseases by stimulating the body's immune response through administering vaccines.
