Saleps are a hot beverage made from the grounded tubers of a wild orchid which are then mixed with milk and sugar. They are typically consumed in winter and are particularly popular in the Middle East, where it is known as sahlab. There are a variety of synonyms for saleps depending on their country of origin and the type of orchid tuber that they are made from. In Greece, saleps are called salepi and in Turkey, they are referred to as boza. Other synonyms for saleps include Turkish delight, orchid root milk, sahlabi and dağ kekiği. Whichever name you use, saleps make for a delicious and warming drink on a cold winter's day.
