Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, commonly known as AIDS, is a condition caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which compromises the immune system of an individual. Though AIDS is a widely accepted term, there are several synonyms for this condition, including Immunodeficiency Syndrome, HIV/AIDS, HIV-associated immunodeficiency, and Late-stage HIV disease.
