Acyl fluoride is a chemical compound with the formula RCOF, where R is a substituent. It is commonly used as a reagent in organic synthesis. Other names for acyl fluoride include acyl fluorides, acid fluorides, or carboxylic acid fluorides. These terms refer to the same class of compounds. Additionally, the term "acyl halides" may be used as a general term for compounds containing a halogen (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine) on the acyl group of a carboxylic acid. Acyl chlorides and acyl bromides are examples of other acyl halides. Despite the different names, these compounds share similar chemical properties and reactivity.
