Advocaat is a traditional Dutch egg liqueur, but it has various synonyms across the world. In Germany, it is known as Eierlikör, which literally translates to "egg liqueur." In Belgium, it is called Mayonnaise because the consistency of advocaat resembles thick mayonnaise. In France, a similar drink is called "La Lait Spiritueux" while the French-Canadian version is called "Liqueur d'oeuf." Interestingly, in South Africa, a popular brand of advocaat is named "Warninks" after the Dutch distillery that first created the liqueur. Regardless of the name, it is a popular drink that can be enjoyed alone or as a key ingredient in many cocktails and desserts.
