Advocaat is a traditional Dutch egg liqueur, but it has various synonyms across the world. In Germany, it is known as Eierlikör, which literally translates to "egg liqueur." In Belgium, it is called Mayonnaise because the consistency of advocaat resembles thick mayonnaise. In France, a similar drink is called "La Lait Spiritueux" while the French-Canadian version is called "Liqueur d'oeuf." Interestingly, in South Africa, a popular brand of advocaat is named "Warninks" after the Dutch distillery that first created the liqueur.
