Aesculus Hippocastanum is commonly known as the horse chestnut tree, a deciduous tree that is native to the Balkans but is now widespread throughout Europe and the United States. Other synonyms for Aesculus Hippocastanum include conker tree, buckeye tree, and sweet chestnut. The tree gets its name from the large, shiny nuts that it bears, which are called conkers. These nuts are popular with children who use them for a game in which two players take turns hitting each other's conkers. The wood of the Aesculus Hippocastanum tree is also used for furniture making, while the flowers and leaves can be used medicinally.
