Agricultural geology, also known as soil science or geopedology, involves the study of the physical, chemical and biological properties of soils in relation to agriculture. Synonyms for agricultural geology include agrogeology, cultivology, edaphology, pedology, and soil morphology. Agrogeology is the study of how geologic processes have influenced the development of agricultural soils. Cultivology is the study of soil cultivation and management techniques. Edaphology focuses on the physical and chemical properties of soil as they relate to plant growth. Pedology, on the other hand, studies the formation and characteristics of different types of soils. Soil morphology is the study of the shapes, sizes and arrangements of soil particles.
