Alhajia is a title given to a Muslim woman who has completed the Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca. There are several synonyms for this word that are commonly used in different parts of the world. In West Africa, the term Hajia is often used as a shortened version of Alhajia. Other synonyms include Hajiya, which is commonly used in Northern Nigeria and Niger; Marhama, which is used in Bangladesh; and Hadjeyah, which is used in some parts of the Middle East. While these terms all refer to the same title, they signify the cultural and linguistic diversity of Islam across the world.
