Alstonite is a rare mineral that has a chemical composition of Ca2BaMn2+2(CO3)4(OH)2. As with many minerals, alstonite has several synonyms. One such synonym is "barocalcite," due to the fact that it forms under high-pressure conditions. Another synonym is "manganochalcite," a nod to its manganese content. Additionally, it is sometimes called "hydrocerussite" because it contains both lead and carbon. Other synonyms for alstonite include "barytostrontianite," "manganese dolomite," and "marcassite." Despite its many names, alstonite remains a relatively obscure mineral, often found only in specific geological formations.
