Amblyrhynchus Cristatus is commonly known as the Galapagos marine iguana. However, there are other synonyms that refer to this unique species of iguana. Some of the synonyms include the marine iguana, sea iguana, and the lava lizard. These iguanas are the only marine reptiles in the world and are found exclusively in the Galapagos Islands. They have unique adaptations such as being able to hold their breath for up to 45 minutes and are able to regulate their body temperature while swimming in cold waters. Despite their unusual appearance and habits, these marine iguanas are an important part of the Galapagos ecosystem and should be valued and protected for future generations.
