American Wall Fern, also known as Rock Polypody, is a common fern species found in rocky areas across North America. It is scientifically called Polypodium appalachianum. The fern's common name is derived from the fact that it can often be seen growing in rock crevices and on walls. Some other synonyms for this fern species include Appalachian Polypody, Crested Polypody, Northern Polypody, Rockcap Fern, and Wall Polypody. The fern is known for its small size and leathery leaves that are dark green in color. Due to its hardy nature, American Wall Fern is frequently used in rock gardens and as an accent plant in landscapes.
