Amniotic Band Syndrome (ABS) is a congenital condition that occurs when the fetus gets entangled in fibrous bands of tissue during gestation. This commonly results in deformities, such as limb amputations, limb constrictions, and facial clefts. ABS is a rare condition with an incidence of 1 in 1,200 to 15,000 live births. Other synonyms for ABS include Streeter dysplasia, Constriction band syndrome, Amnion rupture sequence, and ADAM complex (amniotic deformity, adhesions, and mutilations). ABS can be diagnosed through prenatal ultrasound or after birth through a physical examination. Management of ABS requires a multidisciplinary approach with surgery, prosthetic devices, and physiotherapy interventions as needed.
