Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) is a biological technique commonly used in DNA analysis. However, alternate terms for AFLP do exist. For instance, some researchers refer to it as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)-based Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP). Another synonym is ADAPT (Amplified DNA Polymorphism Analysis Technique), as well as the terms AFLP-PCR and PCR-RFLP. Additionally, the AFLP technique can be modified to generate markers specifically for mitochondrial DNA, known as mtAFLP. Lastly, Amplified Restriction Fragment Polymorphism (ARFP) is a newer variation of AFLP that is gaining recognition among molecular biologists. Regardless of the terminology used, the AFLP technique is a powerful tool in understanding the genetic makeup of organisms.
