Ampullar pregnancy, also known as tubal pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, or extrauterine pregnancy, is a medical condition where the fertilized egg implants in the fallopian tube outside the uterus. In some cases, the egg may implant in the ovary, cervix or abdominal cavity. Synonyms for ampullar pregnancy include tubal gestation, tubal abortion, tubal rupture, and tubal miscarriage. While rare, an ampullar pregnancy can be life-threatening and requires prompt medical attention. The condition is usually diagnosed through ultrasound and treated through medication or surgery to remove the pregnancy. Women who have had one ampullar pregnancy are at increased risk for another.
