Aplodontia Rufa is also known as mountain beaver, the only living member of the family Aplodontiidae. Other synonyms for Aplodontia Rufa include the Pacific mountain beaver, the Oregon beaver, and the boomer. The mountain beaver is found in the mountainous regions of North America, ranging from British Columbia in Canada to California in the United States. Despite the name, mountain beavers are not related to true beavers and do not have a flat tail. They are herbivores, eating mainly vegetation such as grasses, ferns, and berries. The mountain beaver is an important prey species for predators such as coyotes, bobcats, and owls.
