Arabia Petraea, also known as the Province of Petra, was a historical region in the Middle East that roughly equates to modern-day Jordan and parts of Saudi Arabia and Israel. Synonyms for Arabia Petraea include the Nabataean Kingdom, the Arab Levant, the Roman Provincia Arabia, and the Petra Region. The area was known for its rocky terrain and impressive structures carved out of sandstone, including the ancient city of Petra, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985.
