Armadillo bug, also known as pillbug, roly-poly, woodlouse, or potato bug, is a crustacean resembling a small armadillo. These tiny creatures can be found in damp and dark areas, feeding on decaying organic matter. They are commonly called pillbugs because they can roll up into a ball to protect themselves when feeling threatened. Other popular names for armadillo bug include slater, cheesy bug, boat-builder, sow bug, and more. Despite their numerous names, armadillo bugs play an essential role in ecosystems, fulfilling the role of decomposers by breaking down dead plant and animal matter.
