Attenuative is an adjective used to describe something that causes a decrease in intensity or strength. Some synonyms for attenuative include mitigating, moderating, softening, palliating, lessening, reducing, weakening, and blunting. All of these words can be used to describe something that makes a force or impact less powerful by decreasing its intensity.
