The Austrian Monetary Unit has gone through many changes throughout history. Initially, it was known as the Austro-Hungarian Gulden, then it was replaced by the Schilling in 1924. When Austria joined the European Union, it changed to the Euro. However, there are still synonyms that refer to the previous currencies. For example, the Gulden is sometimes referred to as the Florin, and the Schilling can be called the Österreichischer Schilling. Additionally, some people refer to the Euro as the Öef coin or Eurocent. While most transactions in Austria are now conducted in Euros, these synonyms still hold historical significance and are used by some people today.
