Avellis syndrome is a rare and a complex condition, also known as Gilles de la Tourette syndrome. This disorder has been referred to by various synonyms such as tourette's syndrome, laryngeal dystonia, and motor tics syndrome. Other names used for avellis syndrome are Coprolalia Tourette's syndrome, wherein the patient uncontrollably utters obscene words. Another synonym is torsion spasms, which also refers to involuntary muscle contractions. Motor stereotypies and myoclonic jerks are also used as alternative terminologies to describe the involuntary movements associated with avellis syndrome. Despite the different synonyms, all of these terms refer to the same disorder characterized by involuntary movements, sounds, and tics.
