Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS) is a rare genetic disorder that affects several parts of the body. Some of the synonyms for BBS include Laurence-Moon Syndrome, Chudley-McCullough Syndrome, and McKusick-Kaufman Syndrome. These syndromes share symptoms with BBS, such as obesity, vision problems, and intellectual disability. However, each syndrome has its distinct set of symptoms, and therefore, medical professionals use genetic testing to differentiate them. Although BBS is a lifelong condition, early interventions such as genetic counseling, dietary management, and vision therapy can improve the quality of life for people affected by this condition.
