Body feather, also known as contour feather, is a term used to describe the long, stiff feathers that cover a bird's body. These feathers provide insulation, protection, and streamline the bird during flight.
There are several synonyms for body feather, including flight feather, primary feather, secondary feather, tertiary feather and coverts. Flight feathers are the larger feathers located on the wings and tail that allow birds to fly.
