Bovine Immunodeficiency Like Virus (BIV) is a retrovirus that affects cattle, resembling the human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). One synonymous term commonly used is Bovine AIDS, signifying the similarity between BIV's immunosuppressive effects and those of HIV in humans. Another synonym used is Bovine Lentivirus, highlighting its classification as a lentivirus within the Retroviridae family.
