To describe someone who has suffered damage to their brain, there are a number of more appropriate synonyms that can be used. Some of these synonyms include "cognitively impaired," "neurologically challenged," "brain-injured," "neurologically impaired," and "brain-affected." Each of these terms acknowledges the individual's condition without using derogatory language.
