The British Shilling was a unit of currency used in the United Kingdom before decimalisation in 1971. Synonyms for the British Shilling include bob, a slang term that originated from the abbreviation of "bobtail" which referred to a horse with a short tail and was slang for a shilling. Other slang terms for the shilling included "tanner" and "deacon." The shilling was also referred to as a "florin" because it was made of two coins that resembled a flower, as well as a "testoon", a name derived from the Italian word for "coin." Although the British Shilling is no longer in use, it remains a notable part of British history and culture.
