Burchell's zebra, also known as the plains zebra, is a species of zebra found in much of southern and eastern Africa. Though the common name Burchell's zebra is widely used, it also has several other synonyms. One of the most common synonyms is Equus quagga burchellii, which is based on the species' scientific name. Other synonyms include the Damara zebra, the Grant's zebra, and the Chapman's zebra, which are all subspecies of Burchell's zebra found in different parts of Africa. No matter what name it goes by, the Burchell's zebra is a beloved and iconic mammal of the African savannah.
