Carboxydipeptidase is an enzyme that cleaves a peptide bond that contains an amino acid residue attached to a carboxylic acid group. It is also known as carboxypeptidase, as it is involved in the biochemical process of peptide catabolism. Other synonyms for carboxydipeptidase include γ-carboxypeptidase, carboxy-terminal peptidase, carboxypeptidase A, carboxypeptidase B, and C-terminal hydrolase. Each of these enzymes is involved in different physiological and biochemical processes, ranging from digestion to blood clotting and inflammation. Despite the various synonyms, the basic function of carboxydipeptidase remains the same - the hydrolysis of peptide bonds to produce amino acids.
