Charadrius melodus, commonly known as the piping plover, is a small shorebird found along the coast of North America. Due to its distinctive "peep-lo" call, it is also referred to as the "peeps" or "peeplo." Other synonyms for this bird include the beachbird, dune plover, ring-necked plover, and sand plover. Being a migratory bird, these pipers go by different names in various regions, such as the eastern piping plover, northern piping plover, and interior piping plover. Despite their unique names, piping plovers are facing threats such as loss of habitat, predation, and human disturbance, making conservation efforts crucial to their survival.
