Chickenpox virus is also commonly known as varicella or simply pox. Some other synonyms for the term chickenpox virus are varicella virus and human herpesvirus 3. Varicella is derived from the Latin word for "little pox," and therefore, it's understandable that this term is commonly used to describe the virus. Human herpesvirus 3 is a more official term reflecting the classification of the virus with the herpesvirus family. Regardless of the synonym used, chickenpox virus causes numerous symptoms, including a rash, fever, and fatigue.
