The Chino-Japanese War, also known as the Sino-Japanese War, was a military conflict between China and Japan that lasted from 1894 to 1895. This war is known by many names depending on the country and culture referring to it. In China, it is called the Jiawu War, which means the war of jiawu (a name for the year according to the traditional Chinese lunar calendar). In Japan, it is known as the Nisshin War, while in Korea, it is called the Jeongbu (Chungbu) War. Other possible synonyms for the Chino-Japanese War include the First Sino-Japanese War, the Qing-Japanese War, or simply the 1894 War.
