Cholestasis of pregnancy is a liver disorder that occurs during pregnancy. It is also known as intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP). There are several synonyms for cholestasis of pregnancy, which include obstetric cholestasis (OC), recurrent jaundice of pregnancy, recurrent cholestasis of pregnancy, and pruritus gravidarum. The condition is characterized by intense itching, particularly on the hands and feet, as well as elevated levels of bile acids in the blood. Cholestasis of pregnancy can pose a risk to both the mother and baby, leading to preterm labor, stillbirth, or fetal distress. Treatment for the condition may include medication, specialized diets, or delivery of the baby.
