Chrismation, also known as confirmation or myronation, is a sacrament in the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Eastern Catholic Churches. It is the anointing with holy oil, called chrism, which signifies the sealing of the gift of the Holy Spirit. Synonyms for chrismation include anointing with myron, sealing, and confirmatory anointing. In some traditions, it is also called the sacrament of chrism, myronation, or unction. It is considered one of the seven sacraments in these Eastern Christian Churches and is typically administered to infants or children, following baptism. The sacrament is seen as a crucial step in the journey towards spiritual maturity and a deeper relationship with God.
