Classical genetics, also known as Mendelian genetics, is the study of how traits are inherited through generations. However, there are several synonyms for classical genetics that are equally applicable. Other phrases to describe the same concept include "traditional genetics," "fundamental genetics," or "basic genetics." Additionally, some may refer to classical genetics as simply "Mendelian genetics," as it is largely based on the work of Gregor Mendel and his famous pea plant experiments. While these terms may have slight variations in meaning, they are all used to describe the foundational principles of genetics that have helped us understand much about heredity and the workings of living organisms.
