Collocalia inexpectata is a species of bird commonly known as the "Polynesian swiftlet". There are a few synonyms for this species including the "Samoan swiftlet" and the "Tongan swiftlet". The Polynesian swiftlet is a small bird with dark brown plumage and a short tail. They are found throughout the Polynesian islands, as well as in Fiji and Wallis and Futuna. These birds are known for their ability to navigate in the dark using echolocation and can often be seen flying at high speeds through the night sky. Although they are not currently classified as threatened, habitat loss and hunting for their nests are potential threats to their populations.
