The common cuttlefish, also known as Sepia officinalis, is a marine animal that belongs to the cephalopod family. This species can be found in various parts of the world, including the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, and North Sea. Although commonly referred to as "cuttlefish", this species has several synonyms they are known by in different regions. Some of these synonyms include the European cuttlefish, the brown cuttlefish, the oval squid, and the inkfish. Despite their different names, these synonyms refer to the same species of cuttlefish and share similar physical characteristics, such as their ability to change color and texture to camouflage themselves from predators.
