The Common Eider is a sea duck that is found in the Northern Hemisphere. It is also known by other names such as the Northern Eider, Eider Duck, and King Eider. The male and female Common Eider look different, with males sporting a black and white plumage and a green nape. In comparison, the female has a brownish-gray plumage. These birds are known for their soft eiderdown feathers, which are used for insulation. Other synonyms for Common Eider include the Eider Drake, Manky Duck, and St. Cuthbert's Duck. Despite being called "common," their populations face threats due to habitat destruction and hunting.
