A continental rise is a geological feature that is found at the base of a continental slope. It marks the transition between the continental slope and the deep ocean floor. Additionally, the term undersea plateau can be used to describe large expanses of the continental rise that are relatively flat. In some cases, the term submarine fan may also be used to describe the sediment deposits that accumulate at the base of the continental rise. Regardless of the terminology used, all of these features play critical roles in shaping the ocean floor and influencing marine ecosystems.
