Conuropsis Carolinensis is a species of parrot commonly known as the Carolina Parakeet. This bird species is native to North America and was known for its colorful feathers and social behavior. Sadly, the Carolina Parakeet became extinct in the early 1900s due to hunting, deforestation, and disease. Synonyms for the Carolina Parakeet include the green parakeet, American parakeet, and the Carolina conure. These names are often used interchangeably to refer to the same bird species. While this once-common bird is no longer with us, its legacy lives on through the various synonyms and the many people who still fondly remember it.
