Dicerorhinus sumatrensis, commonly known as the Sumatran rhinoceros, is a critically endangered species of rhinoceros found in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Due to habitat loss, hunting, and illegal trade, their population has drastically declined over the years, and they are now one of the rarest animals on the planet. There are no specific synonyms for the word "Dicerorhinus sumatrensis," but it is often referred to simply as the Sumatran rhinoceros. In Malay, it is called "Badak Sumatera," and in Indonesian, it is known as "Badak Jawa," "Badak Cula Satu," or "Badak Emas." Conservation efforts are underway to help save these magnificent creatures from extinction.
