Dural ectasia is a medical condition in which the dura mater (a membrane surrounding the spinal cord) expands and causes various symptoms such as back pain, headache, and tingling sensations. There are several synonyms for this condition, including meningeal dilatation, spinal meningeal diverticula, spinal canal widening, and spinal arachnoid cyst. While these terms are not identical to dural ectasia, they are often used interchangeably by medical professionals. Other related conditions that may be confused with dural ectasia include spinal stenosis, herniated discs, and degenerative disc disease. Proper diagnosis and treatment of any spinal condition are crucial to mitigating the debilitating symptoms that dural ectasia can cause.
