Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a group of genetic disorders that affect how the body produces and processes collagen, a protein that provides strength and structure to the skin, joints, and other tissues. Some synonyms for EDS include hypermobility syndrome, joint hypermobility syndrome, and benign joint hypermobility syndrome. These terms all refer to a subtype of EDS, known as the hypermobility type. Other subtypes of EDS include classical EDS, vascular EDS, and kyphoscoliotic EDS. While the symptoms and severity of EDS can vary greatly among individuals, they all share the common feature of hypermobility, or excessive joint flexibility.
