Eight banners is a term that refers to the military and administrative system of the Manchu-led Qing dynasty. The system was divided into eight groups, or banners, based on different colours, patterns and symbols. These groups were further divided into smaller units and were primarily used for military purposes such as organizing battles and forming alliances.
