The European hornet is also known as the giant hornet or the brown hornet. It has distinctive yellow and brown coloring, and typically grows to be about an inch and a half long. In some regions, it may also be referred to as the brown wasp or the wood wasp. Interestingly, despite its name, the European hornet can also be found in parts of Asia and North America. It is not an aggressive species and usually only stings in self-defense. If you come across a European hornet, it is best to keep your distance and avoid disturbing its nest.
