Ewing's tumour is a rare type of cancer that typically affects children and young adults. There are several synonyms for this condition including Ewing sarcoma, primitive neuroectodermal tumour, and peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumour. Ewing sarcoma is the most common synonym used and refers to the malignant tumour that arises in the bones or soft tissues. Primitive neuroectodermal tumour (PNET) is less common and refers to a group of tumours that share similar characteristics and can occur in various parts of the body. Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumour (pPNET) refers specifically to tumours arising from cells in the peripheral (outside of the brain and spinal cord) nervous system.
