The Family Cathartidae, also known as the Vulture family, includes seven species of scavenging birds found in the Americas. The Turkey Vulture, the most common species, is found from Canada to South America. The Black Vulture is found in the southern United States, Mexico, and South America. The lesser-known species include the King Vulture, the Andean Condor, the California Condor, the Greater Yellow-headed Vulture, and the Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture. These birds play an important role in their ecosystem by feeding on dead animals and reducing disease spread. Despite their unappealing diet, vultures are fascinating creatures and important members of the family Cathartidae.
