The Family Rafflesiaceae is a group of plants that are also known by the synonyms Rafflesia family and the Rafflesiaaceae family. These plants are parasitic in nature and were named after Sir Stamford Raffles, a British statesman who was instrumental in the founding of Singapore. The Rafflesiaceae family comprises of around 17 species, which are found in tropical regions of Southeast Asia. These plants produce the largest flowers in the world that can grow up to 3 feet in diameter and weigh over 22 pounds. Despite their impressive size, the Rafflesiaceae family is notoriously difficult to grow in cultivation, making it a rare sight outside their native habitats.
