Family Raphidae is a group of flightless birds native to the Mascarene Islands in the Indian Ocean. They are commonly referred to as the "dodo family" due to the extinct dodo bird being a member. Other synonyms for Family Raphidae include the "solitaire family" and the "tooth-billed pigeon family," as some of the species within the family have unique beaks resembling teeth. The group includes three remaining species: the Rodrigues solitaire, the Reunion solitaire, and the Liverpool pigeon. These birds have faced significant decline and extinction due to human activity, including hunting and habitat destruction, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts.
