Fasciolosis is a parasitic disease caused by the Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica liver fluke. In medical terms, it is also referred to as fascioliasis, liver rot, or large liver fluke disease. Some synonyms for fasciolosis are hepatic fascioliasis, common liver fluke, and liver fluke disease. Other medical terms associated with this disease include trematodiasis, a type of helminthiasis, and snail fever since freshwater snails serve as vectors for the parasite. The symptoms of fasciolosis include abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. The disease is treatable with a dose of anti-helminthic medication, but proper prevention and control measures are necessary to avoid reinfection.
